At HQ Opening, McAuliffe Preps for Intra-Party Battle

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe scorns sleep and promises to put his competitive drive to work for all Virginians.

“I don’t like to be second in anything,” he said. “If they put up a wall, I’m not going to climb over it. I’m going to blast through it, folks.”

McAuliffe, who opened his campaign headquarters in McLean on Feb. 18, is campaigning on a platform of job creation, energy efficiency and education and transportation improvements.

This evening, gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe is hosting a grand opening celebration with volunteers at his statewide headquarters in McLean. In the coming weeks, McAuliffe will open local offices across Virginia, including locations in Virginia Beach, Richmond, Roanoke, and Loudoun.

George Washington Birthday Parade with Terry

Yesterday on President’s Day, 70 of Terry’s supporters came to the George Washington Birthday Parade in Alexandria to honor our nation’s greatest Presidents. Supporters gathered outside the Alexandria Democratic Committee headquarters on South Royal Street, where they donned Team Terry T-Shirts and handed out stickers and signs to Alexandria residents. An hour before the parade began, Terry and Dorothy and their five kids, Dori, Jack, Mary, Sally, and Peter, arrived and greeted supporters. Also at the parade was Finnegan McAuliffe, Terry’s loyal golden retriever.

Dottie Goldman, Virginia Beach: Will you work to eliminate the Dillon rule which stifles the more progressive areas of the state from moving forward? We in Hampton Roads (I hate that identifier!) and you in NoVa. are held hostage by the rural right wingers in Richmond. Thank you for listening.

Dottie: For those unfamiliar with the Dillon rule: The Dillon rule says that localities derive their power from the state. Virginia interprets this to mean that localities only have the powers explicitly given to them by the legislature.
